UHC Medicare Advantage patients set to lose in-network access to Brown Health physicians

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — Rhode Islanders insured under UnitedHealthcare’s Medicare Advantage plans may once again have to find new doctors amid contract negotiations between the insurer and Brown University Health.

In a statement released on June 5, Rhode Island Attorney General Peter Neronha explained, “unless Brown University Health and UnitedHealthcare reach an agreement, Brown Health physician offices will be ‘out of network’” for individuals with Medicare Advantage plans, including Group Retiree plans, starting July 1.

This comes after similar negotiations between the insurer and the hospital group broke down last year, resulting in UHC Medicare Advantage patients losing in-network coverage at all four of the state’s Brown University Health hospitals: Rhode Island Hospital, Newport Hospital, The Miriam Hospital and Hasbro Children’s Hospital…
