McKee faces $500,000 TV ad onslaught from clean-energy super PAC

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — A deep-pocketed outside group abruptly entered the fray in Rhode Island’s Democratic gubernatorial primary on Monday, announcing plans to air TV ads attacking Gov. Dan McKee because of his positions on clean energy.

The group is called Invest in America’s Future PAC and has received $550,000 from a federal super PAC called the Invest in Tomorrow Coalition PAC. Its largest donor by far is Chris Larsen, a tech billionaire and cofounder of the cryptocurrency firm Ripple Labs Inc.

The group said it plans to spend $500,000 in the final week before the Sept. 9 primary on a major broadcast and digital advertising buy for two 30-second attack ads, one focused on the ILO contracting scandal and another on the Washington Bridge…
