A new battery storage project in New York City is getting ready to take on some of the grid’s toughest hours. NineDot Energy held a ribbon-cutting ceremony on September 23 in Hunts Point, in the Bronx, for its largest battery installation yet.
The project is designed to send nearly 20 megawatts into the grid when demand climbs. NineDot compares that output with the electricity needs of nearly 20,000 homes. However, the battery will not actually be serving New York homes just yet.
NineDot Energy expects full operation ahead of the 2027 summer heat season. The September event marked the project’s launch rather than the start of commercial operation.
