NC State students make GoFundMe to bring more Narcan to campus

RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — Two North Carolina State University sophomores have one goal to keep other students safe.

“We want to increase education and just that prevention services to make sure students are being safe,” Naila Din said.

Din and her friend Alyssa Price started a GoFundMe with a goal of $7,500, all to bring more Narcan to campus.

“Narcan itself is very expensive, it ranges around $45 and $50 for just two doses of Narcan. So, to provide hundreds of students on campus with free Narcan is very expensive,” Din said.

Din says she’s worked on overdose education for months, while Price got involved after a friend overdosed. Right now, the university does offer Narcan and training to anyone on campus. A university spokesperson says in the last two years, 744 kits have been distributed.

Still, Din and Price say the campus needs more.

“Having Narcan easily accessible where you just grab and go, that’s something that’s important for students all across campus,” Din said.

The students say they’ll likely leave the fundraiser open until the end of this semester.
