Reno Approves $289.9 Million Water-Recycling Facility

Reno City Council has approved a nearly $289.9 million water purification facility in the North Valleys that will inject up to 2 million gallons of purified water per day into aquifers beneath West Lemmon Valley—a project designed to boost regional water supply reliability and drought resiliency.

The OneWater Nevada Advanced Purified Water Facility, approved at last week’s council meeting, will be Nevada’s first Category A+ purified water system, treating wastewater to a level clean enough for aquifer injection and future potable reuse.

The main treatment plant will sit at Lear Boulevard and Military Road, with the aquifer recharge site at American Flat in West Lemmon Valley. Construction is expected to begin this summer, with aquifer injection scheduled to start in 2030…
