Northern Nevada braces for triple-digit heat, rising wildfire risk in days ahead

Northern Nevada is bracing for its hottest stretch of weather so far this year, with temperatures expected to reach the triple digits over the next several days — raising concerns about wildfire danger and the potential for a long, hot summer.

Forecasters say a strong ridge of high pressure over the West is driving temperatures well above normal across Reno and Western Nevada. Reno could see its first 100-degree day of the year as early as Tuesday, with triple-digit temperatures possible through Thursday.

“So far our hottest temperature has been 94, which we saw in the past couple days. So overall, just the next couple days are going to be the hottest that we’re gonna be seeing this week,” said Tony Fuentes, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service…
