VIRGINIA CITY, Nev. (KOLO) — The Gold Hill Hotel and Saloon, considered the oldest hotel in Nevada, has received a $20,000 grant to help fund updates while preserving the landmark’s historic character.
The money comes from the Amex Shop Small Grants Program in coordination with American Express and Main Street America. Owner Jill Clough said the grant will go toward new kitchen appliances and other improvements across the property.
First built in 1859, the Gold Hill Hotel officially opened in 1861, and the original structure is still standing and in use today. Clough said the hotel works closely with local preservation partners to keep rooms and features as authentic as possible…
