UV Index forecasted to reach very high levels

Reno is forecasted to have a UV Index of 10 on Thursday, which is very high. A UV Index of 11 is extreme, which was the forecast for Wednesday. If you still want to go outside, ultra violet radiation is usually the highest at solar noon, and fluctuates throughout the day.

Sun burns are not fun and can damage your skin, which is why the UV Index is so important. The higher the UV Index value the more intense the ultra violet radiation will be. The scale goes from one to 13, with values over 11 in the extreme category.

The UV Index varies throughout Northern Nevada and California, not only because of the forecast, but elevation and topography play a role as well. You will burn quicker at Lake Tahoe than Reno, because of an increase in elevation and the reflectivity of the water…
