School transportation leaders gather in Reno to address rising bus costs

RENO, Nev. (KOLO) — School transportation leaders from across the country are meeting this week in Reno to confront rising bus costs, aging fleets and the challenge of modernizing student transportation without exceeding strained budgets.

The gathering, STN West 2026, runs July 9–15 at the Peppermill Resort. The conference includes school bus exhibits and live Ride & Drive demonstrations.

About the conference

Ryan Gray, editor-in-chief of School Transportation News magazine, said the event is in approximately its 35th year — 34th if accounting for a year missed during COVID — and is the publication’s flagship conference.

“We discuss leadership. We discuss operational efficiency,” Gray said. “Big topic of this year was AI and how school districts are incorporating that in for school transportation services.”…
