Green waste dumpsters roll out across Sparks to for vegetation disposal

SPARKS, Nev. (News 4 & Fox 11) — The Sparks Fire Department has placed Green Waste Dumpsters throughout Sparks to encourage residents to dispose of vegetation and improve defensible space around their homes, city officials announced.

The city was awarded a $29,000 grant from the Nevada Chiefs Association (NFCA) to help reduce wildfire risk and improve defensible space. The 2025-2026 NFCA Wildfire Risk Reduction Program supports placing dumpsters across the city, each with educational banners and QR codes linking to resources on wildfire prevention and defensible space strategies.

Dumpsters will be available at the following locations:

  • Culpepper Drive (access at the wildland near Nashua Place)
  • Homerun Drive at Touchdown Drive, at the entrance to GERP
  • Shadow Mountain Park (north parking lot)
  • Village Knoll Drive and Sparks Blvd.
  • Wedekind Regional Park at 11 Disc Drive
  • Vecchio Drive, east of Vincinato Drive

The program is strictly for green yard waste and debris, including leaves, branches, and grass clippings, and is free to city of Sparks residents…
