CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — A vigil outside a local Department of Homeland Security (DHS) facility aimed to honor those who have died in immigration enforcement custody Saturday.
Activists at the vigil on Arboretum Parkway Saturday, Aug. 1, said the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) presence in Richmond puts their friends and loved ones at risk. According to Human Rights Watch, 52 people have died in ICE custody since January 2025.
“We want to evict ICE,” said Dustin King, a Richmond resident and participant at Saturday’s rally. “We want them out of our community. We want out community members and neighbors safe, and in some cases our family members, people that we’re close to.”…
