RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Two Virginia senators are urging Gov. Abigail Spanberger (D) to call a special legislative session after a “deeply alarming” groundwater report warned of declining groundwater levels in parts of the region.
The Virginia Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) published a 117-page report last month examining groundwater resources east of Interstate 95. The report found that the region has little remaining groundwater capacity to support major new industrial users, ultimately putting clean drinking water at risk.
