The train is increasingly popular in Virginia — since 2022, Amtrak ridership has consistently outpaced pre-COVID numbers by tens of thousands of riders each month. But the trip can be frustratingly slow. Rail traffic, extreme heat and malfunctioning equipment all threaten to interrupt daily commutes and out of state travel.
