‘We’re grateful’: One year after Hertzler Farm fire, family feels like they can breathe again

POWHATAN COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — A beloved family-owned Powhatan business has risen from the ashes one year after a massive fire. Hertzler Farm and Feed and Quarterfield Markets owners feel like they’re finally back on their feet.

The store was unrecognizable after the fire burned 12,000 square feet of barns on April 12, 2025.

Now, the Hertzler family tells 8News they feel like they can finally breathe.

“Opening Quarterfield is the last step in our rebuild,” said Jill Hostetter, market manager of Quarterfiled Markets. “We’ve arrived. Now we can take a breath, we can breathe. We can appreciate all the hard work of the past year.”…
