Roanoke student headed to national competition after winning Virginia civics bee

ROANOKE, Va. (WDBJ) – A North Cross student has won the 2026 National Civics Bee® Virginia State Finals, held at Colonial Williamsburg, and is headed to the National Civics Bee® Championship in Washington, D.C. in October.

The Roanoke Regional Chamber of Commerce Foundation made the announcement, congratulating student Will Finney.

The Chamber says Finney will represent the Commonwealth of Virginia at the national championship, where he will compete against top student civic leaders from across the nation.

The National Civics Bee®, an initiative of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation, encourages middle school students to engage in civics, contribute ideas for improving their communities, and develop a deeper understanding of the importance of civic participation.
