The Franklin County Board of Supervisors approved a request for a study to develop a proposal to improve the Fire Department and Emergency Medical Services (EMS) at the April 21 meeting. The Fire Department and first responders are composed of trained professionals and volunteers. The study, to be conducted by an independent organization, will develop a master plan for the county services as the population increases.
EMS challenges include increasing call volume, transport times, and reduced unit availability. The Fire Department faces challengesfrom aging equipment, training, and integrating volunteers with professional firefighters.
