ROCHESTER, N.Y. — People across the Rochester area gathered on Monday to honor those who died while serving their country. The City of Rochester and multiple towns held Memorial Day parades and ceremonies to honor the sacrifice of fallen U.S. military members.

Holy Sepulchre Cemetery on Lake Avenue kicked off the day of remembrance with its first-ever Memorial Day mass at the Christ Our Light Mausoleum. The Most Reverend John Bonnici, the bishop of Rochester, led the service. Earlier this week, volunteers planted 6,000 flags at the veterans section of the cemetery.
“We have a large veteran section. We put flags on all the veterans’ graves and so on and it’s just nice to be able to have a service to commemorate that,” Bonnici said…
