ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — More than 280,000 eggs will be distributed to families across the Rochester region following a settlement involving three major egg producers accused of coordinating to inflate prices.
Foodlink received 23,400 cartons of eggs, or 280,800 individual eggs, which will be distributed through its network of food pantries and community partners across 10 counties.
The delivery comes as part of a multistate settlement with Cal-Maine Foods, Versova/Centrum and Hickman’s Egg Ranch. Investigators said the companies coordinated bidding strategies beginning as early as 2022 to influence a widely used benchmark that helps determine egg prices.
According to the New York Attorney General’s Office, the companies submitted bids at artificially high prices and later withdrew them in an effort to raise published egg price quotes. Officials said the alleged scheme increased costs for retailers and consumers nationwide…
