Mad Hatter’s shut down by state cannabis enforcement, property owners deny any wrongdoing

IRONDEQUOIT, N.Y. (WROC) – Following an order from the New York State Office of Cannabis Management (OCM) to close Mad Hatter’s Smoke Shop on Culver Road in Irondequoit last Thursday, the property’s owners claim the business is being “wrongfully accused” of selling illicit cannabis.

Nicholas Stebbins co-owns the building with his brother Rocco Stebbins, who operates Mad Hatter’s. According to Nicholas, operations at the smoke shop were as usual until last week when state officials executed multiple search warrants.

“Police were at [my brother’s] house, they bust in and say they’re looking for cannabis. He has nothing at his house because that’s not what he does, then they came [to Mad Hatter’s] and said they had a warrant,” Nicholas said…
