ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) – A chance encounter three years ago on Rockford’s east side led one resident to a cat colony with a history spanning decades.
“There were probably, at that time, I want to say about 20 cats,” said Dee, a resident concerned about the cat colony.
Now, Dee makes a point of returning to the site several times a year, armed with fresh water and food. She says after doing some research of her own, she discovered a long history behind the colony.
“This has been here 40 years, and I guess it started when somebody decided to dump a litter here,” explained Dee. “From what I’m seeing, and I could be wrong, but it looks to me between 11 and 13 cats is what it’s down to.”…
