Rockford asking for public help to fix potholes

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — Potholes. We all hate them. The winter weather takes a beating on roads — and our vehicles.

Fixing potholes is one service provided by the City of Rockford’s Street Division. Though the weather hasn’t helped with potholes, the city says you can help make sure the worst of them are taken care of.

“Mother nature brought us quite a bit of snow and freezing rain, we had rain last week, so those freeze-thaw cycles followed by rapid temperature increases from the single digits up into the 30s definitely has created quite a few potholes citywide,” said Rockford Public Works Street Division Head Mitch Leatherby.

Crews are out patching and repairing road damage five days a week, with some even working overtime to keep roads as safe as possible. However, Leatherby says the city relies on public input to assist them in pothole repairs.

“We kind of rely on feedback from residents, from drivers. We have a work order system,” said Laeatherby. “We take requests, pothole patch requests. So. anyone can call the street department at 779-348-7260 and just let us know what the location is, approximate location, what the roadway is, and we’ll generate a work order from there and those work orders do end up in the hands of our maintenance workers and staff that are actually out patching the streets.”
