ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO/WQRF) — There was more than a softball game going on at Rockford Lutheran High School Friday. The folks were also saying “Good-Bye” and “Thank You” to a long-time coach and friend.Head softball coach Joe Lodico is retiring at the end of this school year. He’ll turn 88 later this year. This day was designated “Joe Lodico Day” at Lutheran. The Crusaders played Rochelle, a team coached by Lodico’s son.Lodico has done more after the age of 60 than most of us did in our prime in our 20s and 30s. This school year alone he has not only been Lutheran’s head softball coach. He was also the girls golf coach, the boys and girls bowling coach, and he helped out the girls basketball team keeping stats on the bench.Earlier this week I sat down with Lodico to reflect on his time at Rockford Lutheran.
