The Madison City Council on Tuesday, September 8 approved a bid from Agricycle, Inc. to address the large stockpile of yard waste collected in the city. The stockpile is the result of not having a place to take the waste that will allow yard products. The action was not without some discussion of other options.
Members of the council questioned the possibility of purchasing a grinder for the city. The public works director pointed out that the purchase price would be approximately $700K. Some members wondered if the city could recuperate some of the cost by offering grinding services for other municipalities. But it was pointed out that no contact had been made with other communities to see if it would be needed or feasible.
The bid from Agricycle will include grinding the waste and hauling it to New Way for disposal. The bid was for $47K. The approval came when members pointed out that once the large stockpile is reduced there would not be as much need for the equipment moving forward…
