NWS review of survey data reveals new insight on May 16 tornado

ST. LOUIS, Mo. (First Alert 4) – Nearly a year after the May 16 tornado, the National Weather Service has announced updates to the storm’s path.

On Friday, the NWS announced that the deadly May 16 storms consisted of two tornadoes, rather than one, as previously thought. The NWS also increased the official width of the tornado path, adding over 10,000 damage points to its assessment.

According to the new data, the first tornado was an EF-3 that started in St. Louis County before moving into St. Louis City, and then into Madison County, Illinois. This tornado dissipated outside of Granite City…
