SCAM ALERT: Fake messages claiming to be from “Minnesota DMV”

Scam alert!

We’ve received reports of scam texts requesting payment that claim to be from Driver and Vehicle Services (DVS). The Department of Public Safety and Driver and Vehicle Services (DVS) will never ask for information or money by text.

What’s happening?

Minnesotans are receiving fake text messages, phone calls and emails about outstanding penalties and traffic tickets from entities claiming to be us, including:

  • Minnesota Department of Public Safety – DVS Division
  • Minnesota Department of Motor Vehicles (DPSMN)
  • Minnesota (DVS)
  • Minnesota Department of Vehicle Administration (DMV)

We will never send a text or call you asking for money or saying money is due. For the latest information on scams, visit Fake texts and emails imitating DVS.

What to do

If someone receives a suspicious message:

  • Do not respond to the message or click any links. The Department of Public Safety and DVS will never ask for information or money by text or phone call.
  • Do not give money or personal information.
  • Contact DVS if they think the message is real through our website at drive.mn.gov.
  • Report the message as junk or spam and delete it.
