Downtown St. Petersburg is about to turn into a two-day, five-venue comedy takeover. The first-ever Joke WRLD Comedy Festival lands next Friday and Saturday, Aug. 14-15, packing more than 75 comedians and a stack of live podcast tapings onto stages stretching from the Grand Central District to a public park a short walk away.
A Weekend Built Around More Than 50 Shows
The festival’s schedule runs from 1 p.m. to midnight on both days, packing in more than 50 individual shows and live podcast tapings, according to Joke Wrld Fest. A single festival pass grants access to every participating stage across the weekend, the same source notes.
Beyond conventional stand-up sets, the lineup includes interactive formats such as “Stand Up On The Spot,” “Roast Battle League” and “The God Damn Comedy Jam,” according to Eventbrite. Those unscripted and music-infused formats are meant to run alongside the traditional stand-up bills.
Comedy Meets Baseball at Campbell Park
Saturday morning brings a “Comedian Home Run Derby” to Campbell Park, roughly a 20-minute walk from the festival’s central headquarters, according to Joke Wrld Fest. The 601 14th St. S. property is a 33.6-acre municipal complex run by St. Petersburg Parks & Recreation, with multi-use athletic fields, a regional skatepark, tennis courts and a community recreation center, according to the Pacer Walking App. The park regularly hosts local athletic leagues and civic events, the app notes.
Where St. Pete’s Comedy Scene Already Lives
Festival headquarters sits at Coastal Creative, 2201 1st Ave. S., which will host performances across its main stage and LED room. The space normally operates as a working digital production studio and event warehouse with high-definition LED screens and high-ceiling industrial rooms, according to WeddingWire, hosting everything from digital video shoots and podcast recordings to live concerts.
