Suspect in USF student murders indicted by grand jury

TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — The man arrested in the murders of two University of South Florida students has been indicted on multiple charges.

Hillsborough County deputies arrested Hisham Abugharbieh, 26, in April for the murders of his roommate, 27-year-old Zamil Limon, and Limon’s close friend, 27-year-old Nahida Bristy.

Thursday, a grand jury indicted Abugharbieh on two counts of first-degree premeditated murder with a weapon, two counts of unlawfully hold or move a dead human body in unapproved conditions, two counts of failure to report death to medical examiner or law enforcement. and a count of tampering with physical evidence.

Abugharbieh was identified as a person of interest in the case after Limon and Bristy, both USF doctoral students, went missing in mid-April. Detectives searched Abugharbieh’s Avalon Heights apartment, which he shared with Limon and another man, and found evidence that suggested Limon was in danger.

Detectives eventually arrested the defendant on April 24 after an unrelated domestic abuse incident in the Lake Forest Community, leading to an hour-long standoff between Abugharbieh and law enforcement. The man eventually surrendered after SWAT officers arrived at the scene.
