If you have a penchant for speeding through downtown Newberg, the local police department is providing fair warning that your illegal tendencies may cost you dearly.
The city will soon install an automated speed enforcement camera near the intersection of First and Garfield streets and adjacent to Nap’s Thriftway. It is the latest piece of a traffic safety initiative that began in 2025 when the city installed photo enforcement cameras at the intersection of Highway 99W and Villa Road.
The camera at the intersection will differ from the Villa Road device in that it is a portable unit that will capture speed violations only and is not sited adjacent to traffic signals.
