Trial of former Newberg restaurateur delayed until fall

Originally scheduled to begin April 14, the trial of Paul Bachand, who is accused of child sex abuse, has been delayed until fall.

Bachand — former owner/chef of the now-defunct restaurants Recipe: A Neighborhood Kitchen in Newberg and Pinch in McMinnville — was indicted on 12 counts of first- and second-degree encouraging child sexual abuse and a single count of encouraging sexual abuse of an animal.

A scheduling conflict with co-prosecutor Elijah Michalowski, a senior assistant attorney general in the state Department of Justice, precipitated delaying the beginning of the trial until fall…
