SALT LAKE COUNTY, Utah (ABC4) — Two hikers were rescued from Lone Peak after suffering from altitude sickness.
According to Salt Lake County Search and Rescue (SLCSAR), they were dispatched to assist two hikers who were at the top of Lone Peak around 10:49 p.m. on Saturday night. The hikers reported that they were cold and suffering from altitude sickness.
The search and rescue team initially dispatched to Bells Canyon with hopes that the Utah Department of public Safety (DPS) could assist with the rescue. However, due to sustained winds, DPS was unable to help to rescue the hikers or shuttle search and rescue crews to the lower meadow to be closer to the hikers.
SLCSAR moved their command post to the Peak View Trailhead, where Draper Fire Department personnel were able to shuttle them to Jacobs Ladder. From there, the teams hiked up the mountain.
