Birmingham, Alabama, is the best U.S. metro area for recent college graduates, according to a new ranking from ADP Research that weighs wages, hiring rates and affordability across 53 metros.

Median annual wages for recent graduates in the Birmingham area jumped more than 16% to $59,004 between January 2025 and January 2026, according to ADP Research. Birmingham’s 2.8% hiring rate ranked among the strongest in the study, where rates ranged from 1.8% to above 4%.
