Rain, snow, and fire threats across the state

SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) — Happy Sunday, Utah! Much cooler and soggier weather arrives today, bringing valley rain and mountain snow.

Temperatures will plummet by about 5-15 degrees, with the more dramatic temperature drop being felt in the north. Daytime highs will be about 10-15 degrees below average in the north, topping out in the 50s. Meanwhile, Southern and Central Utah should reach the low to mid 60s, 70s for the warmer spots, and mid 80s for Washington County.

Showers are anticipated to be on-and-off throughout the day for most of the state. Activity will start in the north in the late morning and early afternoon hours and should reach the south by the evening. Blustery conditions are also expected, especially in the south.

Fire threat

Southern Utah’s dry surface air and gusty winds bring an elevated fire threat. A Red Flag Warning is in effect for the Mojave Desert and Grand Staircase until 9 pm Sunday. Areas include Lake Powell, St. George, Kanab, and surrounding areas. Humidity could fall as low as 10% while sustained winds out of the west will be in the 20-30 mph range, gusting to 45 mph.
