High waters are lingering near San Antonio after severe weather blew through the area on Tuesday, May 26.
According to a post from the Atascosa County Sheriff’s Office on the morning of Wednesday, May 27, multiple roadways are still underwater, especially in the Charlotte area about an hour south of San Antonio. Atascosa County deputies have been responding to motorists who have become stranded after driving into flooded roads, the post reads.
“This is not an inconvenience. This is a life safety issue,” the sheriff’s office wrote. “Do not attempt to drive through water covering a roadway — even if it looks shallow. Moving water is deceptive and deadly. Vehicles can be swept away in seconds. TURN AROUND. DON’T DROWN. If you encounter a flooded road — stop, turn around, and find an alternate route. No destination is worth your life. If you are stranded in high water call 911 immediately.”…
