Flood watch issued in South Texas through Friday: Here’s how much rain is coming.

A flood watch has been issued for much of Central and South Texas, the National Weather Service announced late Thursday morning. The watch goes into effect at 9 p.m. Thursday and remains in place through 9 p.m. Friday.

The entire San Antonio metro area is included in the flood watch, along with parts of the Texas Hill Country and Interstate 35 corridor. Several other cities are included, such as New Braunfels, San Marcos, Austin, Kerrville, Fredericksburg, Llano, Burnet, Boerne, Hondo, Uvalde, and Del Rio.

A flood watch does not mean that flooding is actively occurring. Instead, it means that atmospheric conditions are favorable for potential flooding over the next 24 hours.

According to the National Weather Service, areas included in the flood watch are expected to see as much as 2 to 4 inches of rain between now and Friday evening. However, heavier bands of rainclouds could produce isolated totals of up to 6 inches in a few spots…
