San Antonio officer hailed as hero after he rescues man from fiery wreck

SAN ANTONIO – An off-duty San Antonio police officer is being praised for his heroic actions after running toward a burning crash scene and helping save a life.

The deadly accident happened just before 7 p.m. on Apr. 23 off U.S. Highway 281 North near TPC Parkway on the Far North Side.

Police said the suspect, identified as 35-year-old Gerson Adony Godoy Villalta, was improperly towing a Dodge Ram pickup with a Chevrolet pickup when he veered out of his lane and struck an attenuator, also known as crash cushions. The impact caused the Dodge Ram to swing into the side of the Chevrolet, and both vehicles then caught fire…
