SDPD sergeant identified after shooting at parolee

SAN DIEGO — Authorities have released the name of the San Diego Police Department sergeant who shot at a fleeing female parolee Wednesday in Carmel Mountain Ranch.

The sergeant who discharged his weapon has been identified as Jeffrey Houchins, according to a statement released Friday by Lt. Juan Marquez of the San Diego County Sheriff’s Office. Houchins has been with the SDPD for 16 years and is assigned to patrol duties in the city’s Western Division.

The incident began at about 11 a.m. Wednesday, when SDPD officers came upon an occupied stolen vehicle on Tecolote Road in the Morena neighborhood of San Diego, officials said.
