Woman killed after driver crashes into Southcrest bus stop, flees scene

SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — A woman was killed Friday afternoon after a driver crashed into a bus stop in San Diego’s Southcrest neighborhood and fled the scene, according to the San Diego Police Department.

The crash happened around 1:49 p.m. in the 3500 block of National Avenue. Police said a 44-year-old woman driving an Infiniti G35 eastbound on National Avenue drifted across the westbound lane and onto the north sidewalk.

Investigators say the vehicle then slammed into a partially enclosed bus bench, striking a 27-year-old woman who was sitting inside at the time.

The victim suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene, police said. Her identity has not yet been released.
