A Bay Area man drowned Saturday while swimming at Lake Tulloch, a popular Sierra foothills recreation spot, after he became fatigued trying to return from an offshore island, authorities said.
The 31-year-old Campbell man was last seen alive while struggling to stay above water near an island off the 900 block of Foothill Road in Copperopolis, the Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office said. Deputies were called to the area about 1:08 p.m. for a report of a drowning.
The man had swam from the main shoreline to an island about 90 feet away, the sheriff’s office said. While attempting to swim back, he became fatigued, struggled in the water and did not resurface…
