Mayor Daniel Lurie is teaming up with the San Francisco police and firefighter unions to oppose a tax measure on the November ballot that seeks to steer more money to affordable housing.
Lurie and the unions said in a sharply worded statement Wednesday that the measure, Proposition I, would blow a “massive, permanent hole” in San Francisco’s $7 billion general fund, the city’s discretionary spending account that also pays for police officers, firefighters and paramedics, among many other things.
Prop I, also known as the Affordable Housing Guarantee Act, would make changes to a local tax on real estate deals of at least $10 million.
