Read it here first, folks: There are four upcoming weekends when Caltrans is closing about 2 miles of Highway 101 in San Francisco. For an estimated 55 hours each, the detour on a parallel city avenue or Interstate 280 could create extra traffic jams.
Caltrans is improving the Bayshore Freeway (in a section called Hospital Curve) between Cesar Chavez and 10th Street. The agency will close all the lanes in one direction to repave the surface. The work is similar to the 19th Avenue paving and rehabilitation project the agency completed in the spring.
Northbound lanes are scheduled to close for the weekends of Sept. 4-7 (Labor Day weekend) and Sept. 18-21. Each closure begins Friday at 11 p.m., and Caltrans predicts the freeway to reopen Monday at 6 a.m…
