RV fire sends smoke over East Oakland

Two recreational vehicles parked in Melrose caught fire Saturday night, sending a plume of smoke above East Oakland.

At around 7:17 p.m., the Oakland Fire Department responded to the two burning RVs near 47th Avenue and San Leandro Street, said department spokesperson Michael Hunt. About 20 firefighters responded, extinguishing the blaze around 7:35 p.m.

There were no reported injuries Saturday evening, Hunt said. The cause of the fire was still being investigated, but Hunt said RV fires were commonly sparked by cooking or electrical issues…
