15-year-old arrested in connection to deadly shooting at California high school

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — A 15-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of murder and gang participation in connection to a shooting Friday night at Independence High School in Bakersfield, California, police said.

A 17-year-old boy died of his wounds from the shooting that took place at the Independence High School campus just yards from where a football game was being played with hundreds of people at the stadium.

Police officials said the 15-year-old was taken into custody in the 7500 block of Stockdale Highway. According to police, the 15-year-old suspect and 17-year-old victim knew one another. It “was not a random act of violence,” police said in a statement Saturday.
