The state Supreme Court rejected the appeal Wednesday of an Alameda County sheriff’s deputy who was convicted of murdering his girlfriend and her husband in an off-duty assault at the couple’s home in 2022.
Devin Williams was sentenced to 50 years to life in prison in the fatal shootings of Maria Tran, 42, and Benison Tran, 57, after entering their residence in Dublin late one night in September 2022. Other relatives were present, including the couple’s 14-year-old son and Maria Tran’s mother, and they reported that Williams told Maria Tran she was “cheating” on him with her husband, and she replied that she never wanted to see Williams again.
