California sheriff launches homicide investigation after juvenile found with gunshot wound to head

Tragedy struck on Thursday, February 8, 2024, at approximately 5:30 p.m., when the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office (ACSO) Eden Township Substation received a distressing call regarding an individual lying on the ground near 170th Avenue and Clinton Avenue in Unincorporated San Leandro (Ashland). Responding with urgency, ACSO patrol deputies discovered a juvenile male victim, unresponsive and suffering from a gunshot wound to the head, investigators said. Despite the swift arrival of emergency medical services, the victim succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

ACSO investigators swiftly mobilized to the incident location, launching a comprehensive homicide investigation. Preliminary assessments suggest that this was an isolated incident, and there is presently no perceived threat to the safety of the general public.
