A landmark disappeared from the Santa Barbara County coastline Tuesday morning as explosive charges severed the structural supports of Space Launch Complex-6 on Vandenberg Space Force Base at approximately 11 a.m., bringing down towers that stood for decades.
Team Vandenberg members watched and recorded as demolition crews felled the Mobile Service Tower, Fixed Umbilical Tower and Tail Service Masts at the complex known as “Slick Six”, ending a chapter in the history of one of America’s most storied launch facilities.
