Military father and son, serving others one generation at a time

SARASOTA, Fla. (WWSB) – Bob and Rob Harper are a father-son pair of Army Reserve veterans who turned military medical lab training into a lifetime commitment to helping others—now serving their community by supporting the work that saves lives every day.

“You said you know following in my dad’s footsteps, I completely did, but then, my dad followed in mine applying to the blood bank,” Rob Harper, Med Lab Specialist, Army Reserve, 1986-2010, said.

Both Rob and his father Bob trained as medical lab specialists in the Army Reserve, learning skills that would translate well beyond their uniforms. Though they were born nearly 20 years apart, both New York natives, and both attended lab school at Fort Sam Houston—setting them on parallel paths that would eventually overlap in a way they began to see coming…
