NORTH PORT — Officials with the North Port Police Department say there is currently a “sophisticated cellphone scam” going around where scammers can even get access to someone’s money.
The scam, NPPD Public Information Officer Brittany Kammerer said, is becoming “increasingly common.” It can can result in criminals gaining control of someone’s phone number, online accounts and potentially their finances.
