Venice Council approves Venitownhouse project

VENICE — The neighbors who oppose a proposed townhouse project on the island got the same result in an appeal to the City Council that they got from the Planning Commission — a 5-1 vote approving the project’s site-and-development plan.

Venitownhouse is a six-unit development consisting of two-story townhouses over one story of parking on a half-acre lot at 816 Ormond St. The Planning Commission had approved it in April over the objection of neighbors who expressed concerns about stormwater drainage, traffic and privacy.

Properties to the north, east and south are mainly single-family residences. The project site also has a single-family home on it, but it’s a nonconforming use because it was built before the city adopted a zoning code, Senior Planner Nicole Tremblay said…
