Five years after Gabby Petito’s disappearance, family attorney discusses ongoing appeal

SARASOTA, Fla. (WWSB) – Today marks five years since Gabby Petito was last seen alive during a cross-country trip with her fiancé, Brian Laundrie. Her mother drew worldwide attention and raised questions about how law enforcement responds to domestic violence.

Gabby’s family later filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the Moab Police Department over its handling of a domestic violence call involving the couple. That lawsuit was dismissed in 2024, but the family has appealed to the Utah Supreme Court.
