Competency questioned on defendant: Man accused of threatening religious facilities

SARASOTA — The lawyer for a man accused of three internet threat crimes is seeking a determination of whether his client is competent to assist in his own defense.

Attorney Andrew J. Pouget filed a “Suggestion of Incompetence” on Wednesday.

Giovanni Pimienta, 19, 1700 block of Valencia Drive, is charged with sending, posting or transmitting a written or electronic threat to kill or do bodily harm and making a false report concerning of a bomb, explosive or weapon of mass destruction or the use of a firearm in a violent manner, which are second-degree felonies, and unlawful use of a two-way communication device, a third-degree felony…
